In honor of Veterans' Month, Douglas County Libraries will donate all overdue fines collected at area libraries from Sunday, November 5 through Saturday, November 11 to the Highlands Ranch Veteran's Monument Project (
VeteransMonument.HighlandsRanch.org). The library district will also be accepting donations for the construction project at every Douglas County Library branch November 5-11.
The monument will be built at CivicGreenPark, next to the Highlands Ranch Library. $200,000 is needed to build the monument, and all funds will come from donations, corporate contributions and grants, and fundraising tiles.
Douglas County Libraries typically collects around $3,000 a week in overdue fines. The library district has a history of offering similar fine amnesties in support of local and global causes, including Hurricane Katrina, Tsunami relief, and a periodic "Food for Fines" program aimed at filling the shelves at local food banks.
While you're visiting the library in November, please take a moment to mark the locations of your military service (and that of your friends and relatives,) on the Veterans' Month Map. Douglas County Libraries is online at
