Utilizing funds from the L.E.A.F. Grant, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office along with other agencies will be participating in an upcoming sobriety checkpoint, to help reduce the number of alcohol related traffic fatalities in Colorado and specifically in Douglas County. The intent through this
enforcement phase is to send a strong message to all motorists in Douglas County that they may encounter a traffic enforcement operation at any location in Douglas County at any time of day or night.
On Oct. 29, beginning at 6 p.m. until 4 a.m., the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Sobriety Checkpoint on South Quebec Street and Ashburn Lane, in Highlands Ranch. Officers from Douglas and Arapahoe County, Littleton, Parker and Castle Rock Police Department will be conducting this checkpoint.
The purpose of roadside sobriety checkpoints are to maximize the deterrent effect and increase the perception of Risk of Apprehension” for motorist who would operate a motor vehicle under the influence or impaired by alcohol or drugs. All operators of motor vehicles contacted who impaired or under the influence shall be processes accordingly.
Members of the media are invited to attend the briefing, which will be at 6 p.m. at our substation, Park Meadows Center, in Lone Tree. It is located at 9350 Heritage Hills Cir in Lone Tree.
