Deputy recovering from car accident

A Douglas County Sheriff's Office deputy is recovering from a car accident Jan. 31 and hopes to be released from the hospital next week.

Sgt. Max Young, 42, had to be airlifited to a local hospital after he was involved in a three-car wreck at Happy Canyon Road and Highway 85. A passenger in one of the cars involved in the accident also was taken to the hospital.

Young sustained several broken bones in the accident, according to DCSO public information officer Cocha Heyden. He will need to undergo rehabilitation, she said.

"He was in good spirits and his family has been with him at the hospital," she said. "At this point, there is no way to tell when he will be able to come back to work."

Young was heading south on Highway 85 when he was hit by the driver of a Ford F-250, who was heading north and had lost control of his car. As the Ford F-250 was spinning from the impact, it was hit in the front by a Toyota 4-Runner, which also was traveling south.

All three cars traveled off the east side of the highway and came to rest, according to state patrol.

The driver of the Ford F-250, Steven Kriepke, 27 of Littleton, did not sustain any injuries. He was cited for careless driving causing bodily injury, according to Ryan Sullivan, a public information officer with the Colorado State Patrol.
