While my wife and I were on a walk we met 5-year-old Taylor Holst who was selling lemonade. Not just any old lemonade - this was, PINK HURRICANE LEMONADE!
Taylor is a Highlands Ranch resident that wanted to raise money to help people affected by Hurricane Katrina.
She came up with the idea to sell Pink Hurricane Lemonade and donate the money through the Dish Network where her dad Brian works.
The Dish Network is matching employee donations so Taylor’s dad was a big help with her work and making the contributions she raised strech even farther.
Taylor also had help from her mom Tara, a teacher at Arrowwood elementary, making signs and setting up her lemonade stand at the park near Poston and Chadsworth.
Taylor picked pink lemonade because pink is her favorite color and it tastes good too.
Taylor said she had watched news reports and learned about Hurricane Katrina at school where she is a student in Ms. Dodson’s class at Heritage elementary.
Taylor told me the saddest thing about Hurricane Katrina is people have to live outside. But, she hopes the money will help them. She also said the best thing about running the lemonade stand was getting to meet people and how nice they are and they give money to help others.
Taylor was able to fill a milk jug with donations and collected almost $200.00. She worked hard until 3:00pm and the lemonade ran out. All the funds were doubled and donated to the Red Cross.
It was a pleasure to meet Taylor and see even the youngest of our fellow Highlands Ranch residents helping out those affected by Hurricane Katrina. It is clear Brian and Tara are parents of a terrific young lady.
Taylor would like to thank all of you who helped make her lemonade stand a big success and donated to such an important cause.
