My age: Young at heart and experienced
My family: Husband of 30 years is
Ken. Four adult children (including our foster daughter). Six grandchildren who are the most beautiful kids in the world.
Education: Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications/Public Relations and English Writing from Moorhead State University, Minnesota
What I do:Commercial real estate broker with Crimson Services specializing in commercial condominium and office sales and leasing.
My favorite place in town to hang out: My neighborhood and our basement with Ken and friends
What I like most about living here: Highlands Ranch is truly a community. I know my neighbors and they know me. We look out for each other; laugh together and cry together and play together - how could you have it any better than that?
My interests and hobbies: Riding motorcycle with Ken. Golfing - although I'm not good, but always have fun on the course. Scrapbooking.
My favorite thing to cook: Knefphla soup - Of course it's German with a last name like Schumacher.
People who inspired me (and how): My brother,
Sam, who died in 2003. His valiant battle with liver cancer over a 7 year period taught me how to live and be appreciative of every day. Regardless of any challenges we face on a daily basis, Sam inspired me to live one day at a time and make each day count!
How I have contributed to the community: I served as an HRCA delegate for 8 years representing District 85 - three of those years I chaired the Recreation Advisory Committee. I then served on the HRCA Board of Directors for a two year term in 2006/2007. I've assisted with fundraisers for charitable causes within the community as well. Regardless of positions that I have held or committees that I've served on, my personal goal is to simply make Highlands Ranch a great community in which to live, work and play.
The biggest issues facing Highlands Ranch now: Build out in Highlands Ranch is quickly approaching. The community is 27 years old and needs to be visionary about what the future holds as this 22,000 acre master planned community is completed. Shall we become our own city? I believe it is time to conduct another study to study potential incorporation and how that would benefit our residents and business owners. Other important issues are maintaining recreation centers, balancing public enjoyment and wildlife and ecology in Backcountry, fiscal responsibility and effective communications with HRMD & other Douglas County organizations.
Why I am running: I enjoy serving in a leadership role. Many neighbors and friends have given me incredible support and encouraged me to "get back on the Board". After taking the past year off from service, I am reinvigorated and eager to serve the community in this role once again. Serving my community is an honor that I cherish.
