Update: Deputy identified in Highway 85 crash

A Douglas County Sheriff's Office deputy sustained serious injuries in a car crash that occurred near the intersection of Highway 85 and Happy Canyon Road near Castle Pines Village.

Sgt. Max Young, 42, with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, was airlifted to Swedish Hospital in Englewood shortly after 7 a.m. Jan. 31. His injuries, however, do not appear to be life threatening.

According to Colorado State Patrol, a Ford F-250 was traveling north on Highway 85 near Happy Canyon Road when it veered off to the right side of the road and overcorrected to the left, sending the truck into a tailspin.

It then collided into the left front of the deputy's cruiser, which was heading south. As the Ford F-250 was spinning from the impact, it was hit in the front by a Toyota 4-Runner, which also was traveling south.

All three cars traveled off the east side of the highway and came to rest, according to state patrol.

The driver of the Ford F-250, Steven Kriepke, 27 of Littleton, did not sustain any injuries. His passenger in the car, Timothy Wood, 36, of Englewood, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Sky Ridge Medical Center in Lone Tree.

The driver of the Toyota 4-Runner, Linda S. Underwood, 54 of Castle Rock, also did not sustain any injuries.

Charges are pending, according to the state patrol.
