Public hearing scheduled for C-470 proposal
Contributed by: Douglas County on 3/27/2006

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has completed the C-470 Corridor Environmental Assessment (EA) from Kipling Parkway to Interstate 25. The purpose of this project is to address congestion, reduce travel delays and improve reliability for corridor users. This EA analyzes two widening alternatives - the General Purpose Lanes Alternative (No Tolls), the Express Tolled Lanes Alternative, and the No-Action Alternative. The assessment discloses CDOT's opinions of the various effects this project may have to the social, physical, and biological environment; and identifies mitigation options for the adverse impacts.

CDOT is proposing two additional toll lanes in each direction. These lanes will be located in the center of C-470 and will require reconstruction of the existing lanes by shifting these General Purpose Lanes to the outside in order to accommodate the Express Tolled Lanes Alternative.

Because of limited State resources for highway improvements, CDOT is recommending the expansion be accommodated with toll lanes, rather than free lanes. Although drivers are allowed the choice of utilizing the free lanes or toll lanes, the toll lane alternative may not be as efficient of a roadway system as compared to the general purpose alternative.

Learn more about the proposals at a public hearing, scheduled for April 4, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Southridge Recreation Center, 4800 McArthur Ranch Road, in Highlands Ranch.
