Ever since the Matthew Lane neighborhood was built back in the late 1990s, neighbors have gathered during the summerfor "Flamingo Parties." Everyone brings something to eat and drink and shares with everyone else, and they reconnect while the dozens of neighborhood kids play. Whoever hosts the party usuallyposts a flamingo in their yard to announce the upcoming event.
The flamingo made an appearance at the Tyson home on December 21 after neighbors spent a long day digging out from the blizzard. While the kids played inside, adults gathered around a fire to sing carols and warm themselves. The flamingo showed himself to be a very hardy bird, able to withstand 20-degree temperatures while perching in a snow drift. Neighbors agreed that since the bird is able to take the colder temps, the parties should probably continue year-round.
