Ice skating a family affair for local residents
Contributed by: Jody Sigman on 7/9/2008

The Arsenault family of Highlands Ranch are a very busy family. Six of their eight children will be competing in the ISI World Team Championships July 28th-August 2nd. The competition will be held at the South Suburban Ice Arena and the South Suburban Family Sports Ice Arena.

Lindy (12), Stephanie (10), and Laura (9), do most of the figure skating in the family. Daniel (14), Joel (6), and Jonathan (4), will be joining their sisters to compete in the Family Spotlight event. The Arsenaults have been in the South Suburban Ice Arena Learn-To-Skate program since 2002. Even Cindy (the amazing mom) has participated in adult skating classes.

Ice skating is a sport that large families like the Arsenaults can enjoy together. Although John (the amazing Dad) doesn't skate often, he supports the family's efforts by taking care of two younger siblings who don't yet skate, while Cindy takes the six others to the rink. While the boys have dabbled in hockey, the girls take their figure skating seriously. Lindy began taking private lessons two and a half years ago, and Stephanie and Laura began private lessons a year ago. The girls have to pay for half of their lesson costs. They earn money by babysitting and doing yard work for neighbors.

All three girls are coached by Joanie Bauer-Hupp and Jody Sigman, who have a real heart for the girls and supportive attitude towards the Arsenault family's goals.
