Light Rail Ride to the Rockies
Contributed by: Kimberly Coie on 7/19/2007

One evening in July, I ventured out of my home in Highlands Ranch to take the light rail down to Coors field. This was my first trip on the light rail and I was eager to try it out. I parked my car at the Mineral station in Littleton and my friend, Suzanne and I got out to board the train. Suzanne, who had previously travel on the light rail, showed me how to use the ticket machine. I inserted my $20 dollar bill and punched a few keys to purchase my round trip ticket for $3.50. I waited briefly on the boarding dock and then boarded the train headed toward the Union Station stop. The train was great. The windows offered a great view of Denver as we traveled on the 30 minute ride to Coors field. The seats in the light rail were comfortable, and I was even able to converse with my friend Suzanne as we sat facing each other. The light rail car was comfortable, clean and not overcrowded. Once we stopped at Union Station, I disembarked near the actual Union Station rail stop and was greeted by an array of restaurants on a clean street. I walked by The Keg Steakhouse, Ruth Chris Steakhouse, Sing Sing piano bar and the Wynkop Brewery. I also noticed several new condominium developments including the Riverfront, which is marked by a large sailing ship-like mast. My, I didn't realize LoDo had such a lively nightlife. And then straight in front of me, I located Coors field in its large stature and grand presence. My journey was complete. I had arrived at Coors field with ease from my home in the suburbs. Now, a game at the Rockies had become even more pleasurable and convienient, even to us that live in the burbs.
