Predispositions
Contributed by: samantha richardson on 6/14/2008

Why do I love the Rockies? I love them because they did something in just the span of a few weeks last summer that's so rare to do - - change our predisposition about them, and that's something that's so difficult to do in the cynical culture in which we live. Especially for a sports team. Changing the bias of a city...a region...sports writers...other teams, even the nation. That isn't an easy task to do, yet that's exactly what they did.

They became something no one could have imagined they would be. They aren't our boys of summer...better yet; they are the boys of Rocktober. We can't kick around the Rockies anymore. We can't assume that they'll always be the same 'ol, same 'ol and end their season in the summer.

The Rockies did it with the character they always had. Manager Clint Hurdle didn't have to bring in some bad-boy big hitter, they used their own home-grown fellas.

The story of the Rockies transcends the sports pages. It gives hope. Just like the old children's story tale of the little Engine that could....we have our Rockies, and just as they showed us last year, anything's possible. They won 20 of their last 21 games. What are the odds of that happening? These wins included playoff sweeps in not just one (Philadelphia) but then two (Arizona) rounds to make it to the World Series.

So as I watch the Rockies in a slump I know that things can turn around. They did it last year, why not this year too. Lightening can strike twice, right?
