VE Day 63 Years Later - Where is Howard Dean?
Contributed by: Kory Nelson on 5/6/2008

Where are Howard Dean and all the Liberal Democrats protesting "The war" today? Washington? In front of the nation's Capitol? How about a protest march in Denver today?

Howard Dean and the Democratic Party have been spending hundreds of thousands of dollars in a national political ad campaign to intentionally lie and distort the statements and position of Senator John McCain regarding the role of American military in post-war Iraq - the so-called "100 years" ad campaign. They appear to revel in statistical numbers of the cost of war, so let's go over some important numbers today. May 8th marks 63 years of American servicemen and women occupying a post-war foreign country. 63 years is the equivalent of
• 23,012 days
• 552,288 hours
• 33,137,280 minutes
• 1,988,236,800 seconds
In this "foreign" war, 16,112,566 American servicemen suffered 291,557 battle deaths, and 671,846 wounded.

Where are Howard Dean & the Liberals protesting today?

On May 8th, 1945, President Harry S. Truman declared VE Day - Victory in Europe. American service men and women have remained in Germany to this day.

Where are the Protesters?

In Europe, post-war Germany saw bitter divisions as the occupying Soviet Army took control of East Germany and enjoyed the traditional fruits of victory by literally stripping the country bare and shipping anything of value back to Mother Russia. The most amazing thing about WWII was the United State's Marshall Plan - which reinvested capital into Germany, allowing its citizens to be free from the same bitterness of post-WWI Germany that provided fertile ground for the rise of the Liberal National Socialists (yes, the Nazi's were just another off-shoot of Mussolini's liberal statism that provided the government as the answer to all problems - read Jeffrey Goldberg's new book, "Liberal Fascism").

Senator McCain was 100% correct - Americans don't mind U.S. presence in post-war foreign countries to help stabilize a region that has a history of radical political dictatorship that endangered the world. The investment today leads to much greater rewards that should not be forgotten.

Remember the veterans of WWII in Europe today - and thank them. Remember the veterans** of the post-WWII "Cold War" in Europe today too, as they made sure the heavy price of victory was worth the cost.

I hope to meet Howard Dean when he comes to Denver; I have a history lesson for him.
