High School Girl's Summer Series

Rugby, it's a girl thing!

Saturday, August 15 th at Mountain Vista High School in Highlands Ranch, proved to be a perfectly beautiful day for Rugby. Ranch Rugby proudly hosted the final clinic of the CYR High School Girl's Summer Series. Ranch Rugby coaches partnered with players and coaches from, Harlequins, Lady Raptors, School of Mines, and Black Ice to conduct a beneficial clinic and to wrap up the CYR Series.

The CYR Skills, Drills, and Scrimmages High School Girl's Summer Series was implemented this year with three main goals: (1) introduce more girls to rugby (2) keep the ball in the hands of rugby girls during the off season (3) improve overall readiness for the CYR High School Girl's Fall Season.

Overall, the Inaugural Series was successful and looks to continue with positive momentum. Looking at Pros & Cons, feedback, and data, the areas for improvement are easily addressed. Areas for improvement include: more clinics, higher attendance, and differentiated coaching for player ability/experience levels. Areas for celebration include: 4 clinics in 4 different locations, certified coaches and experienced players working together to promote High School Girl's Rugby, participants from 2 provisional teams and 4 league teams, and almost 50% of the clinic participants were introduced to rugby at a clinic.

Congratulations to the girls who participated in the Inaugural CYR Skills, Drills, and Scrimmages High School Girl's Summer Series. For the Veteran Rugby Girls, may you take pride in sharing the rugby spirit with new girls as well as take something back to your team. For the new Rugby Girls, may you share your newly found rugby spirit with your new team!

Special thanks and recognition to the hosts:

  • Season kick-off at Glendale - the Nations first rugby stadium and the experience and excitement of the Glendale Raptors players and coaches - WOW!
  • Clinic #2 hosted in Westminster by the provisional Boulder/Standley Lake team - Facility arrangements were made quickly and effectively when another host cancelled. JR and Kat coached, and the girls gave 110%.
  • Clinic #3 hosted by Ft. Collins - great collaboration on the coaches behalf, nice facilities, and once again; 110% from the girls.
  • Finale hosted by Ranch Rugby - truly a positive wrap-up. As mentioned above, beautiful day, nice facilities, and wonderful participation from a variety of coaches and adult and college players.

It was fun - Coach Airic

I went to all of the clinics and they were basically the same. New drills would rock - anonymous

I went to every one and learned a lot. I wish there were more - Crysta, Ranch Rugby

I love the clinic, I wish there were more. You really learn a lot at these clinics - JoJo, new girl

I came to the clinic and it made a huge difference. My tackling and my rucking will be better. I have played before and it was really fun. Now I can play better and have more fun - anonymous

I felt the drills were effective for breaking down the basics. I think a good addition for next time would be a break down of the basics of tackling - college player
