Cocoa to go-go

YourHub.com would not dare send you into the frosty air without offering a suggestion for staying warm: Drink hot chocolate. Here are a few recipes you may enjoy.

Dreamy Creamy Hot Chocolate
1 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/8 teaspoon salt
6 1/2 cups hot water
mini marshmallows (optional)

In a large saucepan, combine sweetened condensed milk, cocoa, vanilla and salt; mix well. Over medium heat, slowly stir in water; heat through, stirring occasionally. Do not boil. Top with marshmallows, if desired.

Aztec Chili Hot Chocolate
The Aztecs were the first to serve chocolate as a drink, mixing it with hot chili pepper.
1 2/3 cups milk
1/2 vanilla bean, split lengthwise
1 red chili pepper, split with seeds removed
1 cinnamon stick
1 1/2 ounces bittersweet chocolate, grated

Simmer milk in a saucepan with vanilla bean, cinnamon and chili. Heat through for about a minute. Whisk in grated chocolate, and continue to simmer until melted. Remove from heat and let steep for another 10 minutes. Strain out the spices and serve. Serves two.

White House Hot Chocolate
6 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa
6 tablespoons sugar
pinch of salt
2 1/2 cups milk
2 1/2 cups light cream
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
pinch of cinnamon
whipped cream
orange zest

Mix cocoa, sugar and salt. Add milk. Heat to dissolve. Add light cream, vanilla and cinnamon. Heat to just under boiling. Mix very well and pour into warm mug. Top with whipped cream, cocoa powder and zest.
