I work for the Arapahoe Community College Child Development Center. We give tution stipends for parents who wouldn't be able to otherwise attend college because they are low-income and cannot pay for childcare. Arapahoe County offers assistance for childcare to working parents, but not to college students. We would take the $1,000 and place it into our donations account and use it for childcare stipends for the Spring semester. Some of our parents found out about nominating us but couldn't find it on your website, so we collected three paragraphs that three of our parents wrote:
1. To whom it may concern: I would like to nominate the Child Development Center at Arapahoe Community College for the award. My daughter has attended the CDC since September and I can not express my grattitude enough for the staff and director for all of the love and support they give my daughter. I can feel at ease each day becasue I know that she is in a safe and encouraging environment. There are many families that need this for their children so that they can work or attend the college to further their education. Thanks for your time, Heather Kelsay
2. Hello, I would like to nominate the CDC because it is an amazing program and so much more. Never have I encountered such committment and love in a childcare center. The teachers interact with all of the children in such a kind and direct way. My son comes home excited everyday with a story that he has learned. He has begun to wrok together with the other children as a team and I know this has everything to do with the CDC. Each child is assigned to a specific teacher, but all of the teachers work together with the children. I can show up for any reason at any time of day and see the same consistent ideals no matter which teachers are working. I compare the love and commitment that he teachers and director show the chidlren to how my family acts with my children. Our family has been struggling financially for about two years, and we have tried using every angle to regain some stability. In spite of the financial hardships and the emotional wear that follows, we are a happy family of four and have a home filled iwth love and support. Without the stipend, our son would not be going to any sort of preschool to prepare him for kindergarten. The ACC CDC makes this preparation possible, and we are so grateful! As a parent and a member of this community I feel that the ACC CDC goes way beyond any expectations and quality we could ever hope for in a school. They deserve all awards and recognition possible! -Sarah
3. I have three children, 9 years, 4 years, and 6 months. I am going to ACC's nursing program and have to study very hard. Both of my children go to the Child Development Center during the summers and my middle child goes during the whole school year. Everyday I get a personal report of how my child behaved that day and what we need to work on at home. The CDC was instrumental in assisting me in getting my child potty trained as well as getting him mentally and physically stimulated. When my new baby was born, my 4 year old began acting out and I didn't know why. The teachers at the center explained to me that my son was going through some issues with the new baby, so I adjusted my attention. Any time that I need advice or guidence with my children I know that the teachers can help me. I am also getting free childcare, which is essential to me because I am a single mother and only make about $500 a month. I think that they are a wonderful example of what a childcare center should be and I will be heart broken when my son has to go to kindergarten and leave such wonderful people and such a magnificent environment.
-Mel
Please consider awarding us because the money will go to a good cause that aids families from Arapahoe, Denver, and Jefferson counties. We are always rated well and are accredited. We have also recieved a 4 star rating from Qualistar-which is an early childhood rating scale, with 4 being the highest score possible. We were the first 4 star rated program in Arapahoe County.
