Candidate profile: Matt Dunn
Contributed by: Matt Dunn on 10/11/2006

My Name: Matt Dunn

Office I'm Running for: House District 38 (Republican candidate)

Age: 36

My Family: I am not married

What I do: Dentist, practicing since 1999

My favorite place in town to hang out: Cool River Cafe, near Belleview and I-25

What I like most about living here: The good fortune of being able to live in the Arapahoe County community where I grew up, with plenty of family and friends living nearby.

My interests and hobbies: Reading, river rafting, traveling around Colorado, strumming a guitar. Plus baseball statistics and the Spanish language.

What is my favorite thing to cook: Breakfast, which usually involves scrambled eggs.

People who inspired me (and how): Politically speaking, I most admire Abraham Lincoln, for fulfilling the promise of our Declaration of Independence. I would also add Theodore Roosevelt, a conservationist Republican president who loved the Colorado outdoors and used his office to help protect it -- we owe 18 of Colorado's national forests to Roosevelt's vision of preservation.

How I have contributed to the community: For several years I have volunteered dental services to the Colorado Foundation of Dentistry for the Handicapped, and have served on the board of the non-profit Howard Dental Center. I also serve on the State Medical Services Board, which oversees Colorado's Medicaid program.

What are the three biggest issues facing my district now: Our health care system is becoming depersonalized, our property rights are threatened by eminent domain abuses, and unchecked illegal immigration continues to be a problem.
