Contributed by: Weld County Sheriff on 1/8/2007

Weld County deputies arrested a 22-year-old registered sex offender after finding a 14-year-old runaway girl at his Mead residence Jan. 7, according to a press release from the Weld County Sheriff's Officer.

Christopher Fanning, 22, was arrested on suspicion of one count of sexual assault on a child, a class 4 felony and a parole violation, the release states. Fanningwill appear in court for a probable-cause review hearing at 7 a.m. Jan. 9.

Deputies Todd Deutsch and Scott Holmen responded to Fanning's residence on the 200 block of Welker Avenue after the runaway girl's mother informed the sheriff's office her daughter was likely at the home.

"Deputies learned the juvenile and Christopher met each other on an Internet web site called MySpace.com," the release states. "Further information revealed a sex assault had occurred inside the residence.

"After knocking on the door of the residence the runaway juvenile answered the door," the release states. "The juvenile was released to her mother. Deputy Holmen spoke to the homeowner and recognized Christopher Fanning, 22, as being a registered sex offender."

Christopher was held at the Weld County Jail pending the outcome off the probable-cause review hearing.
