Women Build Expo to Benefit Habitat for Humanity
Contributed by: Andrea Wilbur on 9/19/2008

Are you an HGTV junkie? Are you interested in home improvement, but don't know where to find the proper resources to assist you? Are you looking for new home improvement project ideas? Then the first annual Women Build Expo is for you.

Habitat for Humanity Women Build Expo
Sunday, October 26
1 p.m. - 5 p.m.
Colorado Convention Center
Tickets for the event can be ordered online at www.womenbuildexpo.com or purchased at the door for a $10.

This tradeshow, planned and staffed entirely by volunteers, serves as a fundraiser for the annual Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver Women Build home. It will showcase exhibitors from a variety of home improvement and design disciplines including general contractors, interior designers, educators and artisans. The expo offers a unique opportunity for savvy women who have a do-it-yourself attitude to connect in person with local home-improvement and design businesses. Along with exhibitors, the expo held at the convention center will feature presentations and how-to demonstrations. Presentation topics include how to locate a contractor you can trust, proper tool usage, and energy efficiency and sustainable homes.

Not only is the Women Build Expo a great event for those who want to grow in their home improvement knowledge and skills, but also those who want to support Habitat for Humanity. Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver builds and sells homes to low-income families in need of a safe and affordable place to live. Habitat's unique program allows these individuals to become homeowners in their community; a distinction they may not have had the opportunity to have without the program. However, the success and continuation of Habitat for Humanity projects depend on the hard work and time of volunteers, generous financial donations, and sweat equity of home recipients.

Within Habitat for Humanity, a unique program exists that promotes the involvement of women in the construction of Habitat homes; it is called Women Build. During a Women Build project, a home is built under the leadership of women. Locally, the Women Build program, which began in 1995, strives to build one home each year. The construction on the 2008 Women Build home began in late August and is expected to be completed by the end of November. Funds raised through the Women Build Expo will directly support the home building efforts of Habitat for Humanity's Women Build program.

Businesses interested in becoming an exhibitor or sponsor should visit www.womenbuildexpo.com or call 303-284-6354 for further information.
