In the "Your Opinions" column of the March, 23, 2006 edition,
Leonard Muniz
took a poke at the 34 percentof Americans who do not disapprove of
President Bush's
performance, claiming... "his loyal, ignorant Republican constituency remains confused and assured we're doing the right thing in Iraq." (Read Leonard Muniz's letter
here
.)
Perhaps the shortsighted, name-calling Mr. Muniz could take a moment to understand that, WMD issues aside, Americans were justified in Iraq the moment the first Iraqi mass grave was unearthed. If there are still any lost souls out there saying the Bush administration lied about WMD in Iraq in order to justify war, I should point out that far smarter men than Mr. Muniz understand
Saddam
was lying about having WMDs for years, lest he be attacked by the Iranians. Our best intelligence, developed prior to Bush's terms in office, could not crack this deceit.
Did George Bush tell the American people the truth about WMDs in Iraq? Yes, because that is what he and many believed at the time. Was that his only justification for going to war with Saddam? Of course not.
While there are soldiers that have done duty in Iraq, and more that are currently there who have doubts about their mission, many more believe that the mission is critical, necessary and important. Is it about oil? Not hardly. It is about right.
No people should have to live with the oppression that the Iraqis withstood under Saddam. Hasn't the anti-Bush crowd lobbied for US military intervention in a number of African wars that have featured genocide? I would think this bunch would be happy we are in Iraq.

So then explain this to me, right after 9-11 happened American wanted Bin Ladens head on a pole. We went into Afganistan and ousted the Taliban. We then went to Iraq on lets just asumme WMD's. So even if you believe that WMD's were the justification for invading Iraq and all the mass graves, what in the hell happened to looking for Bin Laden and the people that attacked this country? Why don't we worry about the security of our nation and the people responsible for attacking our soil before we worry about massive graves in Iraq. There seems to be a big massive grave standing at Ground Zero in NYC and Bin Laden still hasn't been found. Please explain why we should not be outraged...
