Free Power Running Workshop Demonstrates Unique Outdoor Workout
Saturday, Sept 19 8-9:30 am
Running is huge in Colorado - which is a good thing. Unfortunately, too many people spend most of their time running and do not incorporate strength training and core conditioning into their fitness routine. Plus, most runners cringe at the thought of moving indoors to the gym or health club to strength train. The result - they are prone to injury.
Fitness For Living though has developed a wild and wacky Power Running regimen to transform an ordinary jog into a fun and challenging full-body strength & interval workout by using the outdoors as a virtual weight room. The company is sponsoring a Power Running workshop to demonstrate how to incorporate rocks, logs, tree limbs, picnic tables, steps and more to spice up your run and get pumped-up from head to toes. The free workshop is appropriate for the average athletic adult and will be held on Saturday, September 19 from 8:00 - 9:30 am on the Chautauqua trails in Boulder.
Fitness For Living, operator of five-week fitness Boot Camps, includes a few days of Power Running into their camp sessions. Each day or the trail is exhilarating, challenging and above all, ever-changing. For many Boot Campers, the Power Running days are their favorite.
Whether one runs on-trail or off, there are so many natural 'apparatuses' enroute to create unlimited opportunities to strengthen the upper body, increase explosive power in the legs and build core stability. To expand the possibilities even further, Fitness For Living recommends carrying a resistance band and leg loop, two items that easily fit into a pocket.
The key to Power Running is to break up the run every 5-10 minutes for a short strength interval. Pump out a quick set or two of push-ups or scissor lunges and then quickly hit the trail again. The options are limitless and can include triceps dips from a bench or step, lateral hops over a log, curls and overhead presses using a rock or resistance band, or pull ups and leg lifts from a tree limb.
Fitness For Living's Power Running workshop takes place on Saturday, September 19 from 8:00 - 9:30 am at Chautauqua Park. The workshop is free but registration is required; online registration is available at
