Blog Entry 4 of 7 HO scale slot car racing
Welcome to Front Range HO Racing, we are the place for Denver area Vintage Aurora Thunderjet & AFX Magna-traction Racing. The Front Range HO Racing Club has been racing regularly scheduled HO Scale Racing Events continuously since 1996. We typically have 2 cooler weather seasons each year, with a break during the Summer months. Folks are friendly and the Racing is Exciting! Events are normally scheduled on Friday evenings. If you're interested in attending, contact any of the members listed on the FRHO website: http://www.scaleracers.com/FrontRangeHO/default.asp Our events are designed to be fun and exciting for the newcomer, yet still provide a very challenging environment for competition. Cars and controllers are always available to be loaned out to new racers and plenty of help in building and competing with these cars is freely given. FRHO enjoys a racing circuit comprised of modern, routed and routed sectional tracks with computerized timing systems. Most of the club tracks have lap lengths in the 80' range, with long 20 foot straight-aways. There's even a Scale 1/4 Mile Drag Track!

The Tracks of the Front Range HO club

The Front Range HO slot car racing club (FRHO) is unique. All of our races are held on professional quality, custom made tracks. The tracks are routed from large pieces of plastic, resulting in very smooth, fast tracks.

Additionally, the FRHO group has at least one type of track from all of the major track makers - Wizzard High Performance; Brystal tracks; Dunlap tracks; Bowman tracks; MaxTrack. And, each track uses a different layout/design. This adds variety to the Club's racing.
Most HO scale slot car clubs hold a majority of their races on tracks that are made from "snap together" sectional tracks. Examples of these type of tracks are: Aurora Model Motoring, AFX, Tomy, Tyco, and LifeLike. These tracks are the type that are available at the local hobby stores.

These sectional tracks are made from hard plastic and are less than 15 inches in length. While using these readily available tracks allow for unique tracks, the small track pieces results in an increased number track joints. This usually equates to a rougher track. Thus, the reason the FRHO club uses the professional quality tracks. A better quality track equates to a better racing experience.

Brendan, A professional type of track that the FRHO club races on (16ft to 22ft long) costs between $1500 and $4500, dependent on the track manufacturer.

Walt -- How much does a professional track cost? They sound and look pretty expensive.
