Q: The further I try to go, the further I get behind. It's May and I haven't started on what my annual plan says I'm to do. How do I break the cycle and just "Get to it!"?


A: My advice is to develop a plan to stop doing the $10 per hour jobs, get someone else to do them and focus on the more valuable jobs that you, the owner, need to get accomplished. We teach our clients 'Empowered Delegation' that delegates responsibility for achieving a result but also includes the proper training and reasoning skills, policies/procedures and the authority for them to perform autonomously.

When an employee accepts a task and is properly prepared (empowered), they can be managed more 'by exception', meaning they only need to come to you in the event there is an exception that they have difficulty handling. You'll then have a better employee and you're free to focus on what is most important for you.
