Blog Entry 9 of 13 Jewel's Journal
Mom (Gail) took me to an evaluation in February, 2007. On our way there, I tipped my head real cute and asked, "What's an evaluation?" She said Denver Pet Partners was going to see if I can pass the temperament test for therapy dogs. No sweat! I was registered as a therapy dog a few weeks later, and Mom got me a uniform. My little green vest shows people that I've got an important job to do when I'm wearing it. Watch my blog for future entries about how the kids and I are doing!

Dreamy-eyed baby boomer

Today is Jill's birthday. When Mom and I visited her for tutoring on Monday, we brought along a little gift for her to open at the party her family will have today (Wednesday) after school.

Mom took a long time browsing Borders Books at Colorado Mills last week for the right book for Jill. She was really interested in one of the first ones she saw. She made several more tours of the kids section anyway. After almost an hour, she went back and picked up Black Beauty. It comes with a CD.

Before wrapping the present for Jill, Mom paused for a few minutes and stared at the book. She seemed to be drifting away into a memory. She had a few horses when she was a girl. I think she considered adding this classic storybook to her Christmas wish list.

We remembered to bring my blanket along with us on Monday. Twice in a row we forgot it and Jill didn't sit still very well. I understand how my blankie would help her settle down. It's soft and cozy, and makes me more comfortable too. For her, it defines a special space for our weekly reading.

Jill already had her homework done when we arrived. Without squirming too much, Jill read a couple of books to me. I tried not to squirm too. Then she and Mom played a couple of games.

When it was time to go, Mom asked Jill, "Will you wait here inside for just a minute? I have something to get for you from my car." She locked me into my little crate in the car and went back in with the present. I'm sure Jill was happy to know we thought of her.

I can't wait until next week to find out if Jill had a chance to read and listen to the new story we gave her for her eighth birthday.
