Just read an interesting piece in
BusinessWeek by writer Ellen Gibson. She writes about the people scratching their heads about other people investing in social sites like
Twitter.
How can you make money off of 140 characters or less?
Ellen brings up some famous names who made the mistake of not betting on. or believing in, new fangled techology.
Samuel Morse invented the telegraph. Yet he turned down the opportunity to invest in the telephone. Morse said the telephone provided no permament record of the conversation.
Western Union also turned down the deal.
Ellen also writes about the New York Times which editorialized against the wide-spread use of the typewriter. The paper said it would give too many people access to authorship. I wonder how they feel about the Internet?
Whether or not investors will make money off of 140 characters or less, will be written about in the future, using far more than 140 characters!
