Blog Entry 23 of 24 My Life: Beer and Blogs
I'm a new media guy who happens to live in the Napa Valley of beer. This blog will chronicle my adventures through beers, blogs and everything else. Cheers!

You know you want to be a MoPho!

Last year I was having a hard time thinking up New Year's resolutions. While most people make New Year's resolutions to do things like lose weight or stop smoking, I wanted to do something unique.

I came up with the idea of taking a photo everyday and posting it online. But to make it even more interesting, I decided to do it all from my camera phone. Well, it worked for a week or so, but since I work from home, I don't really get out that much and most of my pictures were of my dog or beer - not very exciting.

So, I let my daily photo project die a slow death. But then, one of my coworkers sent me a link to a photo blog where two people from across the country decided to each post a picture to the blog in the morning and in the afternoon. This inspired us to revive the project. And with two people keeping tabs on each other, it suddenly became a lot more fun.

We decided that we'd post our pictures to Flickr using the tag "MoPhos," which as you can probably guess is short for Mobile Photos. Turns out another user was already posting photos with that tag, so we just decided to help grow the Flickr MoPhos tagspace.

So here's an invitation to all of my fellow YourHubbers. Join me and become a MoPho! But let's keep it local. All you need to do is set up a Flickr account and set it up so that any photo you submit by email has the tag "Denver MoPhos" (Feel free to tag them "MoPhos" as well to get into the main page.) Then take some photos and MMS them to your Flickr email.

Once you submit your pictures, they'll show up on these pages:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/tags/denver+mophos/
http://www.flickr.com/photos/tags/mophos/

If you're interested in participating, but don't know how to set up the Flickr stuff, leave a comment and I'll give better instructions.

beep, b-b-b-beep, beep, b-beep. (Morse Code)

I remember once being in my grandma's basement and sneaking into her collection of Time magazines from years gone by. I came upon this article by a 35 year old woman whose father had take a picture of her everyday on her birthday throughout her life. All the pictures were posted. I thought that was a cool idea and I was going to do it, but I never took even one. Now that I am digital, I can do it a lot better. I have a flicker acount. How about I just upload a favorite picture of the week right from my camera?

So here's how to set up Flickr to autotag mobile uploads: 1) Sign up at www.flcikr.com (if you have a yahoo ID that should work) 2) Once you're logged in go to your account (http://www.flickr.com/account/) and click on the "email" link at the top. You'll see an email address next to "Your Flickr upload email." This is the email address that you'll send photos to from your phone (using MMS or just plain old email). 3) Next to the email address, you'll see an "edit" link. click on that and enter the tags (separated by commas). So for instance, it could say "mophos, denver mophos" That's it! The next time you upload a photo from your phone it will be auto-tagged!

Hey! You guys crack me up! It was so nice out there this weekend that I wasn't in front of the computer for once! Yeah, I'll try to make it for the Blogger Beer Night :-)

Dear O.O.T.I.P. and F.N. Luddite, What's a cell phone? Signed, Out of Touch in Larkspur

Dear F.N. Luddite, As long as you don't destroy my washing machine, my clothes dryer, and my dishwasher you are welcome to your camera-less cell phone. Sincerely, Out Of Time In Parker

It sounds cool, except I don't have a phone that takes pictures. I only got a cell phone a year ago. Signed, Your Friendly Neighborhood Luddite
