Hi, I'm Erin Feese, a community journalist here at YourHub.com.
As journalists, we are always seeking to uncover the newsy, the exciting, the weird and the heartwarming stories going on around us. The greatest part of YourHub.com is that you can be the one to tell your story. In this blog you'll find highlights of the Lakewood and Edgewater sites, as well as the musings of your friendly neighborhood journalist. So go ahead, uncover what's going on around you, and don't be afraid to share what you find.

Green is the buzz around town

The grass isn't the only thing greening up around Lakewood. From harnessing the power of the sun to vegetarian festivals, there are many eco-friendly happenings sprouting up around town.

- Belmar recently announced its plans to install solar panels on three parking garages. The 1.7- megawatt array is expected to be installed in August and will generate enough electricity to power about 255 homes per year.

-Check out Lakewood's Earth Day events, which include a volunteer cleanup day at Bear Creek Lake Park on April 19 and free tree seedlings at Whole Foods Belmar on April 22.

- Veggies, listen up: Lakewood resident Dan Hanley is working to organize the Denver Veg Fest. The first-ever festival of its kind in the Denver area aims to bring awareness about vegan and vegetarian lifestyles, and Hanley promises the food will be delicious. The event will take place April 12 at the Ritz-Carlton, 1881 Curtis St.

-Olinger Crown Hill will celebrate Arbor Day with a community celebration and cemetery tour April 26. Olinger will share its plan for the newly designated arboretum, followed by a tour of the trees located throughout the cemetery. Attendees will be treated to a picnic lunch.

-Lovely, a new women's boutique selling eco-friendly clothes, will have its grand opening in Arvada on April 5. The store's owners, Emilie Oliverand Hallie Wastell, met through mutual friends and bonded over their love of fashion. Both long-time residents of the area, they agreed that Arvada could benefit from the addition of a fashion-forward boutique. How lovely.

-Do you want to do your part to recycle but don't know where? Lakewood resident Susan Williams has compiled a list of local drop-off points.

-Share your environmentally friendly tips or happenings with the rest of the community by posting a story here.

Recycling was made a lot easier with "co-mingled" drop-off locations. There is one at almost every local school. Co-mingled means they do the separating for you. You just clean it out and bring it to the bin.
