Blog Entry 16 of 51 The Lakewood Lowdown
Hi, I'm Erin Feese, a community journalist here at YourHub.com.
As journalists, we are always seeking to uncover the newsy, the exciting, the weird and the heartwarming stories going on around us. The greatest part of YourHub.com is that you can be the one to tell your story. In this blog you'll find highlights of the Lakewood and Edgewater sites, as well as the musings of your friendly neighborhood journalist. So go ahead, uncover what's going on around you, and don't be afraid to share what you find.

Photo tour of Lakewood

I was out and about in Lakewood on June 21 and decided to take my camera along for the ride. I hit up the Heritage Center Farmers' Market, the Cultural Center, Civic Center, police station, both libraries and Belmar Park.

I arrived a little late to the Farmers' Market, as most vendors were packing up after a strong wind gust threatened to blow away their tents. I was able to chat with Diana Tronoe, who owns the Taste of Denmark Bakery at 1070 S. Union St. You know this stuff has gotta be good, because her mother, Annie Nielson, was visiting from Denmark. I also took a photo of Bruce Telford, of Aurora, who was selling 14 different kinds of roasted nuts.

Anyone else notice there are a ton of statues around Lakewood? My quest is to find them all. So far, I have the one in front of the Belmar Library, Lakewood Library and in Belmar Park. It seems to be a theme. Where else can I find these beautiful pieces of art?

Belmar Park is beautiful, and although it was scorching hot, there were a few people out enjoying the blooming flowers and peaceful views.

I also stopped by the Lakewood Library, where some kind folks, including contractor Jim Downing, let me peek inside at the renovations. The focus of the makeover is new bookshelves and carpet and making the library feel more "open."

I also grabbed a shot of Casa Bonita -- if you grew up in the metro area, you probably had a birthday party at this infamous spot. I know I did. I went there when I was a little older, and the food .. well, yuck. I guess kids just don't care, or they are too distracted by the video games, cliff divers and puppet shows to notice.

What are your favorite spots in Lakewood? Post your photos here.
