Colorado Families and Businesses Feel the Squeeze
Contributed by: Dan Mahoney   on 6/22/2006

Middle-Class Families And Businesses In Colorado Would Be Severely Impacted By Bush Administration's 2007 Budget

There is a consistent pattern by the Bush Administration of weakening programs that middle-class citizens depend on for economic prosperity, affordable health care and safer communities.

-Thousands of Denver area students would be unable to obtain federal student aid to pay for college or would not receive enough to meet rising tuition costs.

-Under the Bush Administration's budget, Denver Children's Hospital could lose $7 million, resulting in 84 fewer medical residents trained.

-More than 589,000 informal caregivers will not receive assistance.

-Under the Bush Administrations budget, a resource that helps Colorado police officers combat meth would be eliminated.

We're concerned that middle-class economic prosperity, health care and retirement security are not high priorities in the Bush Administration's proposed federal budget for next year. And we're asking you to participate, stay informed, talk to your friends and neighbors, contact your elected representatives, and let us know how you prefer that we stay in touch with you by visiting our website at www.communities-united.org

When Colorado families really speak up for what's important, our voice will be heard all the way to our nation's capitol.

What CU has done by localizing the federal budget and its effectual cuts to state programs is wonderful. i don't have enough time in the day, working my three jobs, to watch the news to hear about some political mumbo-jumbo that i don't understand. And i also like to support my city and state, over issues that might affect the entire country. i think this is the mentality that we are headed for on a societal level. i read a study published by AP that talked about technology driving individuals inward, and removing them from anything but their own self-interests. This is sad, as our communities are not what they used to be. Siempre Solidarity! Zia!

Can you believe all of these programs were to be substantially cut by the Presidents 2007 Budget? Who really has the time to read the budget, especially those who are working hard to get by? Our elected officials need to hear this discussion, ASAP, this cannot continue down this road much longer. Thousands of hardworking families are going to be severely hurt.

Glad to hear these issues being talked about. No one is saying much to the middle class... especially to 30-50 year olds. I had no idea the federal budget had much to do with me... I'm not poor, not rich, but I don't want programs cut that I might be able to tap into. Why aren't more people speaking up about this? The "middle class" or working class, or any one of us who aren't saving as much as we'd like, are in the boat.

I can't believe this is going under the radar. I would never have known about this if I didn't read this blog.
