Not jumping for Soyjoy
Contributed by: Erin Feese/YourHub.com   on 8/14/2007

I am always on the lookout for "grab and go "snacks. I get a bit grumpy when my blood sugar's low, so I enjoy healthy snacks I can stash in my bag and take to work.

After being amused by the goofy commercials, I decided to try a Soyjoy bar, which promised a "great homebaked taste." I also liked that it had soy protein, which is some studies have show is good for heart health.

Well, the taste wasn't too bad (although perhaps I should have gone for a flavor a little less exotic than Mango Coconut) but it had the consistency of cardboard. Yuck. After examining the ingredients, I noticed that it was pretty much soybean powder and dried fruit. Well, no wonder the thing did not have any moisture whatsoever. I hate to waste food, but I could only choke down half of it.

Pros for the bar is that it is all natural, gluten-free and a good source of protein, but I think I'll pass next time.

Many of the healthy snack bars I've tried have tasted just that ... healthy. So let me know if you've found ones that actually taste decent!

You can always throw your leftover SoyJoy bar and hit me in the head. That might be a good use for it.

Katherine you are so sweet! Apples are great -- they are my favorite take-along fruit. I will take your advice about the Lara bars!

Erin I agree about the Soy bars. Have you tried Lara bars. They are soooo......good. If you like cinnamon, that is my favorite flavor, but many to choose from. Sometimes, King Soopers has them at 10 for $10.00. p.s., I always have an apple in my backpack just in case. It came in handy when I had to spend an entire day at jury duty. Keep up the good work! Lakewood loves you!
