Until I was downsized from Sherman & Howard on December 31, 1991, lunch played an important part of my day.
Every day I would go out to a downtown restaurant, many times with a fellow worker from the word processing department. Other times, it would be with one and sometimes several people from other areas of the support staff. The rest of the time I'd go out by myself.
Today, I met Bill downtown, the last person I have lunch with out of the many people I knew in the various offices where I worked. Instead of a weekly, pre-1991 lunch, we try to meet once toward the end of each month.
These days, Bill is retired and also rides the bus from where he is located in southeast Denver. Diabetes has ended his driving days and also altered his diet. Once in a while we talk about the old days but, for the most part, we check in to celebrate the fact that it's something we're both still able to do.
Bill examines the world from a scientific point of view. I'm the mystic.
Bill printed out two articles from Wikipedia that he gave me today. One called Ancient Astronaut Theories (which mention names such as Erich von Daniken and Zecharia Sitchin) and the other pertains to various Apolio Moon Landing Hoax Theories. At various times in the past, we have talked about both topics.
The current plan is that Bill will call me toward the end of June and we'll meet again. A couple of years ago, when Bill's diabetes was in a nasty stage, he was having foot surgeries and we were only able to get together once or twice that year.
So all in all, I would say that I had a very good day today. I sincerely hope you can say the same.
