I dropped into a Thursday night modeling group the first couple of weeks in May. Then the group had a two week break.
By that time I was working on Thursday's and had enough work coming up that I didn't get back to the group through the month of June.
So last night I took some pencils, a pad, eraser (very important), and pencil sharpener and stopped in for three hours of sketching. For a change, I had worked with last night's model once last October or November. She was surprised to see me trying my hand at drawing because she didn't know I had studied drawing as a kid and at one time pictured myself as an artist. But art, liked most of the things I tried, didn't put me on a path that I ultimately wanted to pursue.
I've been modeling for almost a year now and have found out a few things about posing nude in front of a dozen or more students. One thing is how many people do it. And it seems to have an addictive quality to it as many of the models have been modeling for twenty or more years. And, at least at the moment, it's not easy to pick up jobs. One problem for many people is that being available is 90% of the job.
Fortunately, the men seem to come and go more often than the women. So if it's a school they tend to alternate with male and female models while small groups sometimes use mostly women.
It doesn't look like I'll be back to the group this month because I'm going to be working either the next Thursday or Friday or both for the rest of the month. But they'll be meeting in August and I plan to have the whole month off. Give me a little time to sharpen up my pencils.
