Blog Entry 17 of 17 One Mother's Mischief
This blog is simply about my life. It's crazy and wonderful all at the same time. I'm a stay at home mom with 2 children that are 13 months apart.

Transitions
Contributed by: Amanda Jerome   on 1/28/2008

In life we go through so many transitions.

There's graduating high school, moving out, getting married and starting a family. This is all a fairly normal sequence, give or take. Just because they are normal doesn't make them any easier. I've come to learn that in fact, they can be quite hard.

My husband and I met more than eight years ago, right out of high school. Over the years, there's been a lot of growing up and changing to do. Adding children to our life was the biggest transition of them all. It's no longer is just about what you need or want. As I have found their needs always come first. Sometimes in the mix it's hard to see anything else.

So when the bumps come along in your life, it can be more than challenging. As a couple, we have had to re-identify ourselves. As all married couples know, this can be a hard transition to make. In the sea of needs where do you find time to meet those of your spouse, let alone your own? It's so easy to let some things slide, but that is a short term gain, long term loss.

It's so hard to stop and look at your other half and see it from their view. Saying I'm sorry or I was wrong can be a bitter pill to swallow. We both work toward bettering our family, sometimes leaving aside what the other needs most. I'm learning these are the times where it's hardest but most necessary to stop for a few moments. All of what we have created has come from love. A love that like anything else in life needs time, patients and work.

When words aren't always enough, you wonder, where you've left to go? It's the little things you do everyday that in time become unnoticed. It takes work to stop and really see all the small things we do for each other without expectation. It's these transitions that define who we are as individuals, couples and parents.

When things become almost too much to bear, it's best to stop for a moment, catch your breath and just keep moving. For life is really about just the everyday things. Some days there are those beautiful fleeting moments of bliss, and when they're gone keep in mind, another is just around the bend!

It's unfortunate that sometimes life goes so fast it's almost hard to put the brakes on! I appreciate your feedback!

Well said, Amanda. ". . . stop for a moment, catch your breath . . ." words of wisdom. I think if we stopped more, and counted those "fleeting moments of bliss" we would realize how lucky we are.

I love the cartoon! But Amanda, you really get the big picture here kiddo. When I look back on the transitions we have been through, they seem so simple now. The great thing I see from my point of view, is that you know when to stand your ground, and when to be flexible. All the necessary components of success!
