Spring-Oh Yeah
Many years ago I was told
When you got in your eighties you were old.
In my life it seems to be the cream;
Just sit back in my rocker and dream.
Some of the dreams are sad,
Some makes me feel very glad.
Some time I dream and in my eyes are tears,
To think how good God has been to me over the years.
Today I feel like a kid romping in clover;
Is it me, or spring busting out all over?

Dad was evidently listening to Pat (his writing teacher, in case you've forgotten) when he wrote this poem. He kept it short even though I would have trimmed it another two lines if I were writing it.
Julius and
Lizzie didn't quite match up but then who does? Julius White considered himself a Protestant (which seemed to mean any church except one with Catholic over the door) while Lizzie Fink was a Catholic. Their compromise was Lizzie would take the kids to the nearest church and drop them off and then go by herself to the Catholic church. I'm fairly certain that my dad would go in the front door and out the back.
So since I had never heard Dad mention God, it seems strange to me for him mention God in this poem (or any of his writing). He was a good sleeper and I'm sure that he spent his share of time dreaming in the rocker while my mother,
Alice, who Dad used to call Mrs. Murphy, would do the chores.
Who was Mrs. Murphy? That's what my mother always wanted to know.
