Keeping Cool
When the weather gets very hot,
We look out for a cooler spot.
A tree that has a lot of shade,
Where we can sip a lemonade.
Air conditioned stores try to beat the heat,
And people flock their thinking it is neat.
At home we have an electric fan,
The cool air makes us all feel grand.
The nose was made to smell they say,
And I like it the best that way.
But if I stay too long in the breeze,
It makes me cough and also sneeze.
And when dog days come to my regret,
It makes my feet badly sweat.
The feet were made to run they tell,
But my nose runs and me feet smell.

This was printed in the August 1, 1981 edition of Colorado Old Times. The theme was Dog Days. Dad made a note when he mailed the poem on June 25, 1981. It was the last thing that he wrote that was published before he died.
