Incidents reported by Lakewood Police
CAT LADY CITED FOR TOO MANY KITTIES
Police responded to an apartment complex on the 1300 block of Garrison Street on March 18 on a report of too many cats in one apartment. The 30-year-old woman living at the residence told police she only owned two cats, but the officer could smell the stench of cat urine from the doorway and asked to come inside to check on the welfare of the cats. The officer counted at least 19 cats and kittens in the apartment. The woman said her friends just keep giving her more cats. The officer told the woman she had to place all but three cats in shelters by April 1 or she would be cited. On April 2, the woman was issued a summons on suspicion of violating the pet limit.
MAN'S IMPROPER ACTS CAUGHT ON TAPE
Police were called to Wal-Mart, 7455 W. Colfax Ave., at 4:43 p.m. April 2 on a report of a man masturbating throughout the store. The security officer told police the man had been walking around looking at women and masturbating under his sweatshirt. The security officer showed police surveillance footage of the man repeating pausing behind female shoppers and reaching under his clothes. When police contacted the 19-year-old Denver man, he said, "What did I do? All I was doing was shopping," although he did not have a wallet or money with him. The man was told he was permanently banned from entering Wal-Mart stores and was arrested on suspicion of public indecency.
MAN THROWS CHAIR AT CITY EMPLOYEE
At 3:55 p.m. April 4, a 21-year-old Lakewood man came into the Lakewood Police Department to complete his required sex offender registration. The man did not have the $20 fee and was told to return on April 7. The man became extremely angry, started cursing and demanded to be registered. The man grabbed a chair and threw it at the registration employee, coming within inches of striking her, and then left the building. When the man returned to the police station on April 7, he was arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct and lodged at Jefferson County Jail.
DALMATIAN BITES CHILD
A 58-year-old Lakewood man was issued a summons on suspicion of harboring a dangerous animal after his dog bit a child during a barbecue. Police responded to the 900 block of Eaton Street at 4:12 p.m. April 6. The child's father told police a group of children had been playing with several dogs in the backyard when a one of the dogs, a Dalmatian, bit his son on the leg and buttocks. Paramedics told the father the leg wound would require stitches. The dog's owner told police the dog had bitten a child in a previous instance. The man was given a summons and the dog was impounded at Table Mountain Animal Center pending a court hearing.
