I blogged a short while ago about Dell's efforts to trademark the term "Cloud Computing." It's an
interesting concept
, and the next big thing in the way we'll expand our computing capabilities.
The folks at Dell love the idea and want to copyright the name. But the Patent and Trademark Office just gave Dell a
thumbs down
.
The government's explanation involved all sorts of legal mumbo jumbo, but boiling it down, seems to think that concepts and technologies that are user driven and created, a communal effort of sorts, just can't be copyrighted.
I urge you to learn more about cloud computing, it's a top topic. A google search of the term came up with 8,320,000 hits.
Don't worry, we'll have a tutorial about it all sooner than later!
