Blog Entry 8 of 154 Computing and you!
What's going on in computing, why it's important to master the productivity software on your computer and how to harness the power your computer provides you at work and in your home.

Web is the great political equalizer.
Contributed by: John Scherer   on 7/25/2008

There was a lot of heated debate about the New York Times decision not to print an op-ed piece by Senator John McCain. Cries of media bias were heard across the land, and if you watched any of the political talk shows I'm surprised that a few fist fights didn't break out!

But I didn't need the newspaper to read the Senator's op-ed piece.

I found it on the Internet.I wasn't deprived of reading what the Senator had to say because I simply found it online. And Senator McCain's website did its own satire of perceived media bias as a comeback. It's quite funny.

And when politicians of any party "flip flop" on an issue, you can bet their website will reflect that change within moments. By the time a traditional newscast picks up the story, it's old news. And forget about the paper the next morning.

This political campaign will mark the true power of the Internet in politics. Sure it's been a tool for years, but with the advent of what many call Web 2.0, skilled practitioners are making the most of it.

Like any tool, the people who know how best to use it will win the day. Even the White House.

But even in 2008, millions don't know how to even access the Internet. Millions!

If you're reading this, you know how to get online. But if you know someone who doesn't, show them how easy it is. Or send them to me and I'll teach them.

Check out my corporate blog. I update it every Friday.

Have a great weekend, get online and follow Campaign '08.
