Blog Entry 10 of 51 The Lakewood Lowdown
Hi, I'm Erin Feese, a community journalist here at YourHub.com.
As journalists, we are always seeking to uncover the newsy, the exciting, the weird and the heartwarming stories going on around us. The greatest part of YourHub.com is that you can be the one to tell your story. In this blog you'll find highlights of the Lakewood and Edgewater sites, as well as the musings of your friendly neighborhood journalist. So go ahead, uncover what's going on around you, and don't be afraid to share what you find.

A blustery day in the 100-acre wood

If I had met Winnie the Pooh on the walk to my car yesterday, he would have told me "Happy Winds-Day." I would have tried to tell him it was actually Tuesday, but it probably wouldn't have heard me over the roar of the wind.

Normally I don't mind my seven-block walk from work to my car. It gets my heart pumping, I get a little fresh air (minus the car exhaust, of course) and contemplate the day. However, yesterday's storm was a little less than fun. Now I know why I don't live in Seattle.

Not only was the rain pouring down, the wind kept trying to snatch my umbrella away. (Luckily, I had borrowed my boyfriend's hefty umbrella. My cutesy little leopard-print umbella that fits so nicely in my purse would have been ripped to shreds in an instant.) I had a few Mary Poppins-esque moments, but somehow I managed to hold on.

I also wished I had invested in some galoshes. I didn't wear the right footwear for wading in puddles. I wonder if I would look like a 5-year-old kid if I wore big rubber boots to work? At least my feet would be dry. I always see girls in ads wearing galoshes with cute little dresses, twirling their umbrellas and looking so stylish. Hmm, dresses are not really practical for rain and wind, if you know what I mean. And rainstorms are not beauty-friendly (see photo 5).

So, to say the least, I'm glad the rain has stopped. It reminds me of a quote I read recently, "Water is a state of mind." Meaning that we like to drink it and appreciate that it comes out of our facets, but when it come pouring down from the sky ... we complain about it. So true, so true.
