Green Mountain to be site of prescribed burns
Contributed by: Erin Feese/YourHub.com   on 3/11/2008

Residents of the Green Mountain neighborhood may look out their windows and see smoke over the next couple of weeks, but they needn't be alarmed.

West Metro Fire Rescue will be starting a series of prescribed burns in the area on March 12, if weather permits, according to The Denver Post. Firefighters and Bear Creek Lake Park rangers plan to burn about 200 acres, with the first burn totaling 29 acres. The smoke may be visible to homeowners and drivers near the C-470 and West Alameda overpass.

According to West Metro public information officer Cindy Matthews,
the purpose of the burns are to rejuvenate native grasses, remove thatch and noxious weeds, reduce wildland fire potential, reduce pesticide use and provide firefighter training. Residents with concerns or questions should call West Metro at 303-989-4307.

If you happen to snap a photo of the burn, be sure to post it here.

Other news

Lakewood police are on the lookout for a man who impersonated a police officer by using a flashing red light to pull over a 17-year-old girl at Morrison Road and Kipling Parkway on March 8. Police determined there were no Lakewood officers in the area at the time.

The man is described as
5-foot-9, weighing 215 pounds, with a buzz haircut and a mustache. He drove a white car and did not wear a badge or gun holster.

Lakewood detectives remind citizens that if they question the authenticity of someone trying to make a traffic stop, they should acknowledge the person and then drive slowly to a well lit and populated area before stopping. Citizens may call by phone to confirm an officer's attempts to stop them.

Anyone with information can call Lakewood Police at 303-987-7111.
