Blog Entry 34 of 37 The Happenings at LAC!
Lakewood Arts Council serves Jefferson County, and its Community Art Center and Gallery is located at 85 S. Union in Lakewood. LAC supports all of the arts: visual, music, theater, literary. My name is Cindy Haase and I am the LAC Board's President for 2009. As part of our outreach I will be posting items from my viewpoint of the happenings at LAC. MAG's "Views of the East and West"

The "Views of the East and West" has become a tradition for the Mountainside Art Guild. The theme is artwork depicting anything typical of traditional or contemporary Asian or Western cultures or life.

Fort Collins plein air artist, Jeanne Mackenzie, juried for awards. More information about Jeanne and her plein air paintings can be found at http://www.jeannemackenzie.com.

Artwork Awards:

Best of Show "Desert Dwellers" Oil by Kathy Berls
Second Place "Home of the Ancients" watercolor by Miriam Ritter
Third Place "Fresh Ground" instant coffee by Bill Leonard

Merit Awards:
"Shadow Play" photograph by Elayne Cottingham
"Gourd and Peppers" colored pencil by Cindy Haase
"East Meets West" acrylic collage by Carolyn Tegeder

Juror, Jeanne Mackenzie, commented about the Best of Show: I loved the quality of light in this piece and the intimate zooming of a simple subject. Tints of blue, red and green harmonized with softness yet there was a strong sense of contrast. This dark and light gave the composition strong focal point enhancing a
3-D quality.

The exhibit is on display at Lakewood Arts Council's Community Art Center and Gallery until October 30, 2009.
