Blog Entry 13 of 14 Musings from a young conservative on the state of...
My name is Thomas James Randle and I am a young moderate member of the Republican party in Jefferson County Colorado. This blog focuses on both city politics and current issues, as well as the typical politics of Red and Blue. Issues City: Transparancy, Comprimise, Economic Improvement, Citizen Involvement, Helping Special Needs, Conservation. State/National: Transparancy, Property Rights, Fiscal Responsibility, Strong National Defense, Environmental Protection without Economic Detriment. I strongly resist social conservatism as I believe it interfers with what I see as the number 1 tenant of Republicanism: Personal Responsibility.

My Ballot in a 'Hub'-shell

Ihave filled out and turned in my ballot of 2009.Here is a rundown of who I am supporting this fall.

City Council:

Ward 4:Dave Wiechman-Ward 4s multi-decade activist, with experience to guide the decision making of city council.Achoice above the partisan fray, A choice that is not a gamble, and a choice that will actualy be commited for the full 4 years(or 8) of his elected terms. An objective decision maker who's work we have seen in action. There was absolutely no hesitation for my vote for this candidate.

Ialso want to express support for Ward 2's Frank Teunissen, who is the only real "Fresh Perspective" running in these races. However, Frank's showcased preparation for roles in leadership shows his fresh perspective is about new ideas rather than just a lack of experience.

Also Ward 5's Natalie Menten should be elected. Her commitment to citizen rights and liberty that transcends partisan boundrys would make her addition to council a much needed break in the status quo.As effective as she has been as an activist, theres no doubt to how effective she will be on council.

Jefferson County School Board:

Laura Boggs, and Richard Rush were my choices.

As someone recently out of the Jefferson County Public schooling system, Iwas somewhat dissapointed with my preparation for the real world. Now out of the school system, I am disappointed with the bureaucracy that has opposed fiscal responsibility and transparency.I believe that the vote for these two members, will bring a change to the status quo of Jefferson County.

Term Limits Issues:

Ivoted to support the extension of the Jefferson County term limits. In most cases Ibelieve in shortening time limits given or adding term limits where they are currently not required. However, all of the positions in question require on the job experience that can not be seen if terms are forced to be too short. Some opponents will make you want to think that this is a partisan issue. But as a republican in an area continuously shifting to the left, Istill think this is a good idea.

Retention of Judges:

Ivoted to not retain either judge. The biggest issue for me here is that Ibelieve judges should have term limits.

This is my last posting related to the election of 2009. I want to thank all of those who emailed me or spoke positively to my parents about the articles seen here or in print.Ihope they were entertaining in the least. Below are some resources I used or think many would find interesting. Some of them have a "Tea Party" feel but as someone who doesn't get strongly into the tea party group and proudly accepts the "RINO" title because of my social and environmental views, I still think they are great sites and groups. Happy Halloween!
