Description:
The
Denver Chapter of Engineers Without Borders (see
www.ewbdenver.org) is hosting its third annual
Sand Sculpture Contest on Soda Lakes Beach in Bear Creek Lake Park in Lakewood. Each team with have about 4.5 hours to sculpt about 3 cubic yards of sand into shape to be eligible for one of two awards:
Best Structural Sculpture (has to look like a building or actual place) and
Best Open Division (anything goes but we ask entrants to be p.c., after all, this is a family event). Trophies will also be awarded for
Kids Choice (kids vote free) and
Favorite Fundraiser (anyone can vote for their favorite with their wallet). The contest entry fees ($500 corporate/$150 non-profit) all go to support the Chapter's projects in
Ecuador, Togo, and Madagascar. We are also supporting the construction of a womens' shelter in the Denver metro area but that project doesn't require our funding support - just our expertise.
Watching the contest unfold is free but it costs $5 per carload to get into the park for the day which has plenty of other activities like hiking, biking, swimming, canoe and boat rental, etc. Come join us for a day on the beach when Denver area engineers leave their pocket protectors and calculators at home and get down and dirty. Actually, non-engineer teams can enter the contest as well.
