The Buck Stops Here
In an exclusive interview today, I.C. Deer, a young buck walking through the proposed wildlife corridor Monday morning in Rooney Valley expresses his views pertaining to the upcoming Lakewood City special election on the here-to-fore approved land exchange.
Here is that exclusive interview:
YourHubReporter (YHR): Nice to see you, I.C. How's your fall so far?
IC: Not bad. Weather's been great, nice does in Green Mountain, but I need to find some bark and water.
YHR: Is that why you were walking south along the proposed wildlife corridor? On your way to Bear Creek State Park?
IC: Yep...What? PROPOSED CORRIDOR? We use that all the time!
YHR: Well, yes, the residents who live there know you do, but others don't think wildlife actually uses that space.
IC: Really? Well, that's too bad. We use it all the time to get from Green Mountain to Bear Creek. I'll tell you what; traffic on Alameda is getting to be quite a challenge. Crossing can be murder!
YHR: Say, have you ever used the culvert to cross under Alameda?
IC: Some of us do, but mostly it's used by coyotes. Not really thinking we wanted to share that same space.
YHR: Homeowners near Rooney Valley sure do hear those coyotes at night.
Why did you stick to the drainage corridor and not use the full Rooney Valley for migrating?
IC: Are you NUTS? There're rattlesnakes out there!
YHR: Good point. Did you know that there is movement out there to build houses on your corridor?
IC: No! How would we get to the water and wooded habitat at Bear Creek?
YHR: Well........you would have two park areas right off of Alameda to use instead.
IC: Is there water? Are there wooded areas? Aren't there...CARS?
YHR: Unless Lakewood residents take a wildlife stand and vote to approve the land exchange, I'm afraid that's what will happen.
IC: Oh. That's not good. Well, I better get going. Here come a couple of walkers and their dogs. I'm heading back to Green Mountain.
YHR: Hey, IC, your rack is coming in nicely. Will we see you again?
IC: I hope so.
YHR: So do we, IC, so do we.
