Lakewood noted in article on changing face of suburbia - The city of Lakewood was cited as a prime example of the changing face of the American suburb in a recent essay in Next American City magazine. It was called an example of a "Cosmoburb," a term used in a forthcoming book on the changes occurring in American suburbs.
It was named along with Aurora as an example of the changing suburb that includes an increase in the number of single-person households and increased business areas. Lakewood was compared to other suburban cities around the nation, like Naperville, Illnois; Plano, Texas; and Bellevue, Washington. Because of the future that will include light rail, the article also compared Lakewood's possible changes in coming years to Arlington, Virginia, with its growing diversity and vibrancy. KLTV8 airs transit program - Lakewood's City-owned cable station, KLTV8, will air the program "Transit-Oriented Development: Reshaping the Great American City." This one-hour program created by AIA Denver shows how good design is good business, creating special places and yielding a higher return on investment than less thoughtful approaches. The hour-long film addresses access to the transportation system, connections, context, density and growth, uses and activities, landscape, and beauty. Through case studies, it identifies challenges and opportunities and makes recommendations useful in the discussion of site-specific projects.
It will air on KLTV8 during the month of August. Dates and times are available on the KLTV8 webpage at www.lakewood.org. It is also available for viewing at any time on the web under KLTV8's Archived Media page at http://lakewoodco.granicus.com/ViewPublisher.php?view_id=2
