What I do: I am recently retired, seeking to represent the citizens of Lakewood in the Colorado House of Representatives.
My favorite place in town to hang out: Coors Field
What I like most about living here: The climate and the mountains and the fact that my family has lived here to enjoy them for over 100 years.
My interests and hobbies: I am an avid reader of military history. I enjoy bike riding and annually ride to raise money for Children's Hospital. My wife and I have been Colorado Rockies season ticket holders since 1993.
My favorite thing to cook: Tuna Pasta Salad
People who inspire me (and how): The men and women of our Armed Forces inspire me. My daughter and son-in-law are in the Navy. Their sacrifices for our country inspire me to do my part to make my section of the world a better place.
How have I contributed to the community: My life has pretty much been devoted to making our nation/state/community better places to live and raise our children. I served 28 years in the Army, seven on active duty and 21 in the reserves. I worked for the City of Lakewood for 17 years and for Denver Public Schools for 6+ years. I have served on the Board of my homeowners association, served as president of the Bancroft Civil Service Commission and have raised money for Children's Hospital for the past 12 years.
The biggest issues facing us now: Our current economic climate is the greatest challenge facing our state and nation. Our state needs representatives who understand that we cannot continue to increase taxes and spend every dime in the state budget and simultaneously work ourselves out of these tough economic times. Our national security is an issue that requires constant vigilance. Finally, Colorado must do a better job of prioritizing its budget, given the demands being greater than the money available.
Why am I running: I am running because I am concerned about the direction our state has taken over the past several years. I am concerned about the unionization of the state work force, the feeling by the democrats that increasing the state budget by 1/2 billion dollars and 1300+ employees in this economy is a good thing and problems with illegal immigration.
