Jefferson Foundation says goodbye to Mona Sandoval

July 1, 2009, Lakewood, CO ~The Jefferson Foundation invited members of the community to a gala reception at Copper Fields Event Chateau in honor of Mona Sandoval, retiring Executive Director of the Foundation. Sandoval retires at the end of June after 15 years of service to The Jefferson Foundation.

The theme was island-casual and party-goers wore colorful Hawaiian shirts and festive leis. A PowerPoint tribute, assembled by Marty Topping, highlighted a career dedicated to providing program funding to the students of Jeffco Public Schools. Music by local band, Look Both Ways (www.lookbothwaysband.com), had everyone on the dance floor.

"It was appropriate for our event to be at Cheryl Wise's Copper Fields," said Anton Delgado, Director of Marketing for The Jefferson Foundation. "Cheryl took over the Prom Dress Exchange from our Serving Kids clothing program. It was the best venue to say goodbye to Mona."

The festivities were underwritten by friends of the Foundation, including Lola and Rob Salazar, FirstBank, Stifel Nicolaus, Community First Foundation, the West Chamber Serving Jefferson County, Pam & John Purvis, and the staff and Board of The Jefferson Foundation. In lieu of retirement gifts, Mona requested donations to the Foundation. $2,075 was donated and will be used for the Serving Kids program..

Serving Kids has been supplying clothing to Jeffco students in need for the past 13 years. The all-volunteer program distributed over 11,000 clothing items to 1,020 students in the past school year.

The Jefferson Foundation supports Jeffco Public Schools in its mission to prepare all students for a successful future. Since the Foundation has the ability to raise money and fund projects beyond the legal and political capabilities of Jeffco Public Schools, it engages the community's support to fund programs that address academic achievement, as well as programs that fill vital needs for those at risk.
