2006 North-East India Project (Yimjenkimong)

Announcing the North-East India Project
by Jason K. Powers

In November of 2004,six members of an organization called PhotoMission, Inc. went to India for three weeks. We had a wonderful, amazing time out there and saw many places.

The highlight of the trip for myself, was visiting a village in the north-east called, Yimjenkimong Village, in the state of Nagaland. It was a great experience and we met many wonderful people. This village is a predominately Christian village, since a missionary, Dr. E.W. Clark came in the later 1800's to spread the 'Good News'.

Since our visit, I have kept in close contact with Ghani Zaman, of Orissa, India (who went on the trip with us). We have talked over the past two years of ways we could help this village develope somewhat. Over the past few months, things have evolved as such, to where we will now be able to go out there again! Our travel will be around November 25th through December 10th.

We have undertaken a reletively large project, that has been broken up into 3 phases which we hope to accomplish over the nextfew years. Phase I will be building a structure that will serve as a guest house, classroom/training center, and museum. We also will be teaching a few Bible studies, training some of the men, women and children in the area of drama so that they will be able to go to other villages and teach others about Jesus.

In addition to these things, we hope to have someone that will help teach the village council some basics of micro-finance. Ultimately, the village would like to open up to travellers/tourists for eco-tourism, which will in turn, help them produce a source of income that will help them sustain.

This village is a dying village if it continues the way that they are, due to a number of factors such as the remoteness of village, the younger ones leaving the village to persue schooling, carreers etc... and many not coming back. The village is predominately a self-sustaining village, that doesn't play a role in the economics of the country, much less, the state. We hope to help them evolve, and be able to sustain through many more generations.
