O'Dell declares mayor candidacy

John "Jack" O'Dell, longtime Lakewood resident, has announced his candidacy for mayor of Lakewood in the fall 2007 election. A strong proponent of maintaining Lakewood's quality of life for all its citizens, Jack's concerns include:

Strengthening small business
Encouraging greater civic engagement through a partnership of citizens and government
Conserving the city's financial resources to ensure the vitality of our community in the future

O'Dell is currently president of Lakewood Foothills Rotary Club, president of Citizens for Lakewood's Future and a board member of the Colorado Mobility Coalition.

In 2005, as chairperson of the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life event in Lakewood, he helped raise $45,000 for cancer research. He has also been a coach for Lakewood Special Olympics for several years.

Having attained Eagle rank at early age,O'Dell has had a lifelong commitment to the Boy Scouts of America and has served in various leadership capacities with a troop in Lakewood.

An active member of the American Society for Public Administrators and The West Chamber of Commerce, O'Dell is a graduate of Leadership Jefferson County and currently serves on its advisory committee.

He is currently employed as a disability program navigator, empowering adults with disabilities to lead productive, enriched, and meaningful lives.

O'Dell has a B.A. in economics and business administration and an M.P.A in public administration from the University of Colorado at Denver.
