Who's watching us?

Can someone please let me know who owns and controls the cameras that appear on the top of the light poles and traffic light wires. They are popping up all over town. Such as the intersection of Wadsworth and Mansfield. They also appear on along Broadway going north just before Hampden. What are the reason for the cameras? Are they for reporting accidents? If so who do they belong to and who has access to the video feed? Also was there ever a law passed or needed allowing the cameras to be installed that films every car that passes through certain intersections? Just curious.

I agree, talking to the City is the best way to get a complete answer. However, this is what I know from answering this question from other constituents: The cameras are for traffic management, at main intersections to watch for accidents and timing lights. At small intersections they are to trigger the stoplight routine if a car is waiting. They don't show detail, just the volume of cars. Only live shots, no recordings. Cameras may be City of Lakewood, another municipality, county or CDOT owned, depending on the location. Staff has access to the live feed of larger intersections, though they are not continuously montitored. The smaller intersections are most likely just sensors to trigger the light, with no image sent anywhere. Hope this helps -- Diana Allen, Lakewood City Council Ward 5
