Outstanding corporate librarians win awards

At their annual Shirley Alldredge Memorial dinner on May 10, 2006, the regional association of information professionals, Rocky Mountain Chapter SLA, presented their 2006 awards for service to the profession. Linda Van Wert received the Meritorious Achievement Award for extensive service to the Chapter over the years. Christy Confetti Higgins received the Horizon Award for a new member who has made a significant contribution to this local Chapter of SLA.

Mrs. Van Wert has contributed to professional associations in many ways throughout her career. A past-president of the Rocky Mountain Chapter, SLA, she is on the National Faculty of the Emporia State University Graduate School of Library and Information Management, and is the Chapters academic relations chairperson. She is active in SLA, the Colorado Association of Libraries, Colorado Council of Medical Libraries, Mid-Continent Medical Library Association, and the Medical Library Association.

In 2000, Ms. Van Wert served on the SLA International Task Force for Conference and Program Planning. She is a Distinguished Member of the Academy of Health Professionals. As the librarian/information specialist at Gambro, in Lakewood, Colorado, she serves corporate employees in many countries. Gambro is a global medical technology company with related services and has leading positions in renal care - services and products - and blood component technology.

Mrs. Higgins has published professional articles and has given national conference presentations, and is on the Digital Advisory Board of McGraw-Hill Professional. For SLA she served on the SLA Membership Task Force, is the Chapter newsletter editor and monitors the Chapter blog. She is the SunLibrary digital-library program lead and information architect for Sun Microsystems global corporate research library. Sun Microsystems, Inc. is a leading provider of industrial-strength hardware, software and services that make the Net work. Based at Sun's Broomfield, Colorado, campus, Ms. Higgins serves Sun employees in more than 100 countries.


This year, the Rocky Mountain Chapter of SLA, celebrates 55th years of providing networking and professional development opportunities for over 300 information professionals throughout the Rocky Mountain region. In June, 2007, the Chapter will host the International SLA Annual Conference in Denver.

The Special Libraries Association (SLA) is a nonprofit global organization for innovative information professionals and their strategic partners. SLA serves more than 11,000 members in 75 countries in the information profession, including corporate, academic, and government information specialists. SLA promotes and strengthens its members through learning, advocacy, and networking initiatives.
